Daniel (Viet) Nguyen

Seeking a career as a Risk or Finance Analyst/Consultant to apply quantitative and analytical skills in generating insights that shape strategic business outcomes with clarity and impact.

🚀 About Me

I’m an MSc Financial Economics graduate (Merit, University of Exeter) with experience in financial due diligence, M&A advisory, and large-scale data transformation across professional services environments, including KPMG and Grant Thornton. I was recognised with the Exeter Award and contributed to a high-impact consultancy project, developing strong capabilities in financial analysis, risk assessment, and data-driven decision-making. My experience spans evaluating financial statements, identifying unrecorded liabilities, and assessing revenue, contractual, and credit risks in M&A transactions.

Some of my key achievements include:

  • Financial Due Diligence: Uncover a £420K EBITDA adjustment in target valuation, strengthening buyer negotiation leverage to achieve a more favorable purchase price.
  • Risk Analysis: Detected £500K in unrecorded liabilities, mitigated acquisition risk and securing a 5% enterprise value reduction plus SPA indemnities for the client.
  • Data and IT governance: Assessed access vulnerabilities and control gaps across multiple SOX compliance engagements at KPMG, facilitating remediation of five key control issues and improving clients’ overall IT governance and compliance posture.
  • Sustainability Analytics: Delivered data-driven climate policy recommendations in the VOIZ Climate Simulation Challenge, ranking 15th out of 164 teams through applied analytical insights.

I am driven by curiosity and impact, leveraging data analysis, visualization, and strategic thinking to surface hidden risks, identify value opportunities, and translate complex information into clear, evidence-based recommendations for decision-making.

🧩 Beyond Work

Outside of my studies, I am committed to sustainability, community, and continuous learning. I actively support local initiatives, notably volunteering with Food Action Exeter, where I managed inventory and distributed an average of 285 meal portions per month, addressing food poverty and earning recognition as a Top Volunteer.

My commitment to sustainability led to my involvement in the HASS Sustainability Education Project at the University of Exeter. As part of a four-member postgraduate team, supported by a PhD researcher from the faculty, I collaborated with others to brainstorm research ideas, analyze data, and interpret findings that revealed how sustainability themes are embedded across the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS). Our work was presented at the HASS Sustainability Education Excellence Symposia, where it sparked meaningful discussions among senior faculty and inspired follow-on initiatives. The project was commended by Dr. Nick Kirsop-Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Policy and Governance, for its quality, impact, and professionalism. Further details can be found in this blog post on the University of Exeter Sustainability Space

In my personal time, I enjoy exploring local cafés, attending community events, and spending time in green spaces. These activities allow me to connect with others, appreciate nature, and maintain a balanced lifestyle.
